How to deal with hard times

In this video I talk about my favourite quote “you never know what worse luck your bad luck saves you from” Cormac McCarthy. More importantly, I talk about how the quote helps me when dealing with hard times and especially when things go wrong. When things do go wrong as they inevitably do eventually we often see the alternative as some kind of utopia a life that turned out substantially better that we are now missing out on.

So if you’d like to know how to deal with hard times you have to stay aware of how you replay the alternate stories in your head.

About Steven Webb
Steven Webb is a Zen Buddhist meditation teacher, former Mayor of Truro, and host of the Stillness in the Storms and Inner Peace Meditations podcasts. Paralysed at 18 and reborn through a “dark night of the soul” at 40, he now guides millions worldwide (including one of Insight Timer’s most popular sleep practices) to find peace without perfection. By day, he’s a Truro City Councillor and Lib Dem candidate, advocating for dignity-first policies and community energy projects. Oh, and he once towed a replica helicopter 500 miles in his wheelchair to fundraise for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

“The breath knows how to breathe. Our job? Just allow it.”

    1. Thank you, it is surprising how powerful it is when we become aware of how much a false story negatively impacts our future.

      My pleasure 🙂

  1. Thank you for sharing. I have been “re-writing” my past by changing my perspective of the events. Doing this is changing my life and setting my journey on a new path. I love it when I find others who are doing the same thing. Sending hugs and wishing you a wonderful day!
