How to Free Yourself and Become Fulfilled

I. Introduction

Welcome to a journey of self-discovery and transformation. In episode 10 of our podcast, we delved into a profound metaphor that encapsulates the essence of life and the path to becoming fulfilled. We explored the concept of life as a glass, a vessel that gets filled with experiences, beliefs, and opinions as we grow up. But what happens when this glass is full? Does it quench our thirst for happiness and fulfillment? Let’s dive deeper into this metaphor and uncover the secrets to freeing ourselves and becoming fulfilled.

II. The Concept of Life as a Glass

Imagine your life as an empty glass. As a newborn, this glass is pristine, devoid of any preconceived notions or biases. As we grow, this glass begins to fill up. Our experiences, beliefs, and opinions, poured into our glass by parents, teachers, friends, and society, start to shape our perception of the world. We start to see life not as it is, but through the lens of our filled glass.

III. The Impact of a Filled Glass

The contents of our glass, however, may not always serve our best interests. We often fill our glass with what we think quenches our thirst – societal norms, expectations, and beliefs that we’ve been conditioned to accept. But more often than not, these lead to feelings of unhappiness and dissatisfaction. We find ourselves yearning for something more, something that truly satiates our thirst for fulfillment.

IV. The Importance of Emptying the Glass

The key to becoming fulfilled lies not in adding more to our already filled glass, but in emptying it. It’s about letting go of the beliefs and opinions that no longer serve us, making room for what truly nourishes our soul. Emptying our glass allows us to break free from the constraints of societal expectations and norms. It gives us the freedom to choose what we want to fill our glass with, leading us on the path to true fulfillment.

V. The Poem by Rinpoche

A poem by Rinpoche beautifully encapsulates this concept. “You live in an illusion and the appearance of things, there is a reality, but you do not know this. When you understand this, you will see that you are nothing fundamentally, you’re none of the things in the glass. You are the empty glass and being nothing. You are everything. You can fill the glass with what you want.” This poem serves as a reminder that we are not defined by the contents of our glass. We are the glass itself, capable of holding whatever we choose.

VI. The Power of Choice

The power to choose what fills our glass is the key to becoming fulfilled. When we choose the meal, when we choose the drink, we are choosing what nourishes us. The problem arises when we let others fill our glass for us. We end up with a glass filled with things that may not quench our thirst for fulfillment. By reclaiming our power to choose, we can fill our glass with love, compassion, and things that truly resonate with us.

VII. Call to Action

I invite you to reflect on what fills your glass. Is it quenching your thirst for fulfillment, or is it leaving you yearning for more? Consider taking steps towards emptying your glass and filling it with what truly nourishes your soul. Remember, the path to becoming fulfilled starts with an empty glass.

VIII. Conclusion

In conclusion, life is like a glass. It getsfilled with experiences, beliefs, and opinions as we grow up. However, to truly quench our thirst for fulfillment, we must learn to empty this glass and consciously choose what we fill it with. This journey towards becoming fulfilled is not about adding more to our already filled glass, but about emptying it and making room for what truly nourishes us.

So, let’s embark on this transformative journey together. Let’s empty our glasses and fill them with love, compassion, and things that truly resonate with us. Remember, the path to becoming fulfilled starts with an empty glass. It’s time to free ourselves from the constraints of societal expectations and norms, and embrace the freedom to choose what fills our glass.

Remember, “You are the empty glass and being nothing. You are everything. You can fill the glass with what you want.” Let’s fill our glasses with what we want, with what truly quenches our thirst for fulfillment.

As we conclude this exploration, I invite you to reflect on what fills your glass. Is it quenching your thirst for fulfillment, or is it leaving you yearning for more? The power to choose what fills our glass is the key to becoming fulfilled. Let’s reclaim this power and embark on the path to fulfillment.
